Insurance asking for a “WETT Certificate”?
Most insurers are actually requesting a WETT Inspection Report completed by a WETT-certified inspector.
That’s exactly what we provide.
What Is a WETT Inspection?
WETT stands for Wood Energy Technology Transfer. A WETT inspection is a documented, standards-based assessment of visible and accessible components of wood-burning appliances and venting systems, commonly requested for insurance and real estate.
We inspect (as applicable):
-
Wood stoves and pellet stoves
-
Fireplaces (wood-burning and factory-built)
-
Chimneys and venting systems
-
Wood furnaces and related installations
Level 1 (Site Basic Visual)
Our inspections are Level 1 visual assessments, meaning we evaluate what is visible and accessible without removing components, opening concealed finishes, or making modifications to the system.
Why You Need a WETT Inspection
WETT inspections are commonly requested for three reasons:
1
Insurance Requirements
Many insurers request a WETT inspection report for homes with wood-burning appliances, often for new policies, changes, or renewals.
2
Real Estate Purchases & Sales
A WETT report helps buyers and sellers document visible conditions of wood-burning systems as part of a transaction.
3
Safety Concerns
If you’re concerned about how a wood stove, fireplace, or chimney system is set up or performing, a WETT inspection can help identify visible issues and outline recommended next steps.
How We Inspect Hard to Reach Areas
Not all chimneys and roof details are safely accessible. When conditions allow, we use drone imaging to improve visibility of chimney caps, crowns, flashing, and other upper-roof details on steep or multi-story homes. Photos (and video when helpful) are included in your report to support documentation.

What You’ll Receive
After the inspection, you’ll receive a written WETT Inspection Report that documents:
-
Visible condition of the wood-burning appliance, venting, and chimney system (where accessible)
-
Observations and deficiencies noted during the inspection
-
Safety-related concerns observed at the time of inspection (when present)
-
Recommended next steps (and repair/upgrade items when needed)
-
Photo documentation of key findings (where applicable)
This report is commonly used for insurance documentation and real estate transactions
How Long Is the Report Valid?
Your report reflects conditions observed at the time of inspection. If the appliance, venting, chimney, or surrounding finishes are changed after the inspection, the report may no longer reflect current conditions.
Insurance timelines vary. Many providers accept reports completed within the past 12 months, but you should confirm the specific requirement with your insurer.

Frequently Asked Questions
How should I prepare for the inspection?
Ensure the appliance is cool and accessible, clear stored items around the unit, and secure pets.
Do you need attic/crawlspace access?
If accessible, it can help document venting/chimney routing and related conditions. Access limitations are noted in the report.
Can you inspect more than one appliance?
Yes. Let us know what appliances you have when booking so time and pricing can be confirmed.
Do you inspect outdoors in winter/weather?
We document what is visible and safely accessible at the time. Weather and roof conditions can limit exterior views.
Will you provide a “pass/fail”?
We document visible conditions and deficiencies observed at the time of inspection, with recommended next steps when issues are noted.
What if parts of the system aren’t accessible?
Any limitations are documented in the report so you know what could not be confirmed.

1) Jonathan was able to complete the inspection to meet the quick deadline. After reading his report I know that this house has too many issues; but i will speak with Jonathan to discuss his findings. Jonathan was also able to complete a WETT inspection and water test. 2) Jonathan has now Inspected a 2nd home for me. After I read his report, Jonathan took the time to clarify some of his findings. With Jonathan's findings I feel confident in purchasing this property. Jonathan did find an item that needs attention. With his findings my Realestate Agent will approach the Seller about a price reduction. **I would encourage anyone to have a Home Inspection done before purchasing a home. Know that Jonathan will do a thorough inspection; allowing you to make an informed decision**
