COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Where Should I Test My Home?
Test in the lowest livable level (usually the basement) at least 2 feet above the floor. Close all windows and exterior doors 12 hours before and during testing.
What is an acceptable radon level?
Health Canada's guideline is 200 Bq/m³. Levels above this require action within 1-2 years depending on severity. The good news: even very high levels can be reduced to safe ranges.
Can radon problems be fixed?
Yes! Even very high levels can be reduced to acceptable levels. Most homes can be fixed for about the same cost as other common repairs (like a new hot water heater). We connect you with certified C-NRPP mitigation professionals.
Is radon only a problem in certain areas?
High radon levels have been found in every province. New Brunswick has particularly high rates, but the only way to know YOUR level is to test YOUR home.
Why choose East Coast Home Inspection for radon testing?
We're the only C-NRPP certified lab in the region, which means same-day results instead of waiting weeks. Plus, we're RHI-certified home inspectors who understand both radon AND homes.
What if I'm buying a home?
We work within your closing timeline and coordinate with realtors. Results give you negotiating power if levels are high, and knowledge that you and your home is healthy if they're safe.
